Southeast Dallas ![]() Southeast Dallas is a vibrant, fast-growing section of the city with a community flair that offers a rich mix of people, excellent business environment and outstanding quality of life. Tracing its history to 1835, Southeast Dallas is one of the oldest sections of Dallas County, with a population exceeding 110,000. The area is defined as being bounded by Interstate 30 on the north, Mesquite city limits on the east, the Trinity River on the south, and White Rock Creek on the west. The area embraces smaller communities such as Urbandale, Parkdale, Piedmont, Pleasant Mound, Pleasant Grove and Buckner Terrace. From these neighborhoods, downtown Dallas is just seven to 12 minutes away. Light industry is attracted to this area because of distribution advantages, a relatively low tax base and accessible employees. Southeast Dallas is served by a network of major highways and thoroughfares that provides easy passage to destinations north, south, east and west. As a result, businesses located here have convenient access to Dallas Love Field Airport, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and several private and regional airports. Southeast Dallas is far more than just a vital business area of a great city; its comfortable mood, energetic spirit, warm and friendly people and great services make it an excellent location in which to live. Complete medical and dental facilities are abundant, from private clinics and doctors' offices, to the Southeast Dallas Health Center. For those who enjoy cultural arts, recreation and sports, many activities are provided at nearby Fair Park, with its famous Cotton Bowl Stadium, Music Hall and museums. The Southeast Quadrant has more than 851 acres of parks with swimming pools and tennis courts. Keeton Park features an 18-hole municipal hole course; and White Rock Lake, the largest lake inside a U.S. city, provides parks, playgrounds and a jogging/bike trail just a few miles to the north. An exceptional education system, ranging from pre-elementary schools to institutions of higher learning (including Eastfield Community College and renowned Skyline Career Development Center) plus numerous parochial schools, offers a well-rounded education. The area is also justly proud of a spiritual life that is fostered by more than 100 churches representing all major denominations. During the mid-1980s a construction and development boom took place in Southeast Dallas, adding numerous industrial spaces, retail projects, single-family homes and townhomes to the regional inventory. Residents and businesses working in Southeast Dallas look with pride upon their area of Dallas. For them, excellent living and business opportunities are more than facts and figures; they are a great way of life.
