Crimewatch Meeting

If you didn't make it to the Crime Watch meeting today, you really missed out.

Kandace Walter our Assistant City Attorney and Grove Community Prosecutor was the speaker.  Her goals are to "Improve quality of life in targeted neighborhoods; build meaningful partnerships to proactively and creatively solve community-based problems; hold class C misdemeanor offenders accountable in the criminal justice system and to the community that have been harmed by their quality of life crimes."

She will be working very closely with the Community and the Southeast Dallas Chamber.

We also heard from Weed and Seed about some of the things they are working on in the Community.

One of our main goals is to gather as many groups, organizations, Officials, and concerned citizens as possible together so we can form a team to make Pleasant Grove a great place to live and work.

Our next CrimeWatch Meeting is scheduled for: 7/17/08- 12:00 PM  at DPD, Southeast

Operation Guitar

The Texas Association of Pawnbrokers, TAP launched a program to benefit our brave soldiers in Iraq that fight everyday to protect our freedom. Please review the information below and consider getting involved.

TAP believes that pawnbrokers are in a unique position to help support U.S. troops deployed in Iraq by collecting new and used guitars from pawnshops and others.

After sending only a few guitars, news of the program spread quickly among fellow soldiers. Since March, TAP has collected and shipped over 100 guitars to specific soldiers who have emailed us with a request. Currently we have a waitlist of over 30 soldiers and are receiving requests daily. "OGD" needs your help! We will gladly accept donations of acoustic/electric guitars or much needed funds towards the packaging and shipping of these guitars. On average a guitar costs $35.00 each to package and ship by the USPS. TAP is a non-profit association and has limited funds to continue with this program. If you can help, our mailing address is listed below. Please make any cash donations payable to the Texas Association of Pawnbrokers and note, "Operation Guitar Drop" on the memo line.

The soldier is receiving an 8X10 laminated document that explains who donated the guitar. We are asking the soldiers to send us a picture of them with the guitar once they receive it. We then forward that picture to the store/individual that donated the guitar. The pictures are awesome and the email requests from the soldiers will pull at your heart strings!

For those of you who have already made donations, TAP and its Board of Directors would like to thank you for your efforts and generosity. Without you, this would never have been a success.

We encourage you as Members, Non-Members & Associate Members to participate in "Operation Guitar Drop". Our goal is to offer our brave men and women in uniform an opportunity to take a stress break and fellowship, while strumming a guitar.

God Bless You.
